Antigua started to be independent by England in 1981, but before that, every factor of Jamaica Kincaid's life was affected by England. For example , Kincaid refers to the form of England as a calf of beef which is nasty, old, stinky lamb (showing her dislike towards England) Although she compares it to a jewel, she proves that only Englanders deserve to put on it, as if Antiguans are generally not worthy. She feels as though her own persons do not are supposed to be in this lifestyle, " They [Englanders] put on it well and they wore it everywhere. ” Repetitively, Kincaid says " Produced in England” a whole lot, that it is as if every target she incurs comes from the us. This kind of tone carries on throughout the whole essay although she under no circumstances directly tells her negative opinions of England, her syntax shows it perfectly. Kinkaid adds, " I did not find out much – CERTAINLY not a blessing. ” The delicate addition of words like " certainly” and " alright” share her frame of mind of beat. She feels just like her residence of Antigua has been conquered and absorbed by England, and dreads the feeling of not having independence, not just for her country also for herself.
