The action of racism in contemporary society today is somewhat taboo, yet it would appear that we, as being a society, ignore that not that long ago it was more uncommon to not practice racism. Although, most likely it is not we do not keep in mind, rather it can be that we are trying to right our faults like a people that preach equality but also for many a hundred years did not show any to our counterparts. In " Desiree's Baby”, by Kate Chopin, the author focuses on the interpersonal caste that accompanies race, associated with the time frame of the environment, in order to demonstrate the dominant theme of racism through the hypocrisy of Armand which leads to the destruction of Desiree and her baby, resulting in a lessons that can be applied to the contemporary society of the twenty-first century.

Throughout the brief story the phrase " negro” is used widely to describe the workers in the field however it never capitalized in the traditional form of respect, showing someone the time period in which they end up. The interpersonal class associated with an African was non-other than that of a slave, and they also were cared for as such around the property of Young Armand, contrasting how they were cured during the secret of his father. Armand's actions demonstrate his unhappiness for the race, and that he views all of them as below his inferiors. With this kind of view environment the preceding of the book, it is no wonder that after Armand viewed the change in the baby's complexion there was " an awful change in [Desiree's] partners manner”, " he absented himself from your home; and when having been there, avoided [Desiree's] occurrence and that of her child”. Then when it came down to his workers that seemed " the very soul of Satan seemed suddenly to take hold of him”. After being faced with his wife as to the beginning of the dark skin of her kid she was promptly told " it indicates the child is not white; it means anyone with white”. In that case, inquiring as to if she should leave he tells her he wishes her to look, and so the lady does, being implied by author that she eliminates her baby...
