This Essay will certainly discuss the usage of symbols inside the novel The Pearl simply by John Steinbeck. In this novel there are many topics explored. These include the self destruction of greed, how love can give somebody great valor and durability, knowledge is power, yet a electrical power which can be mistreated, and how a dream is good until it starts to eliminate the things valuable in a person's life. The destructiveness of greed is usually shown when the doctor concerns Kino's house and heals Coyotito following Kino finds The Pearl. When Coyotito had been bitten by the scorpion, his father and mother take Kino to the doctor in order to get therapy. But the doctor refuses to treat Coyotito mainly because Kino can be poor. Afterwards, after Kino owns the pearl, the physician automatically involves Kino's house and offers a " treatment" for Coyotito. After he " treats" Coyotito, this individual pretends that he would not know that Kino has found a pearl and asks Kino about the medical expenses. " You have a treasure? A good treasure? The doctor demands with curiosity. The reality is the doctor cares more regarding Kino's gem more than supplying people therapies. The doctor does this because he ideals materialistic points more than this individual cares about others. Although the doctor has a fortune and this individual has an large quantity of everything this individual needs and wants in his life, this individual still wants more and his is disappointed. Obviously, the greed had already controlled the physician's mind and the way this individual acts towards people. One more example of the destructiveness of greed is seen in Kino As Kino tried to find a way to gain wealth and status through the treasure. During this, Kino transforms from a happy, comfortable father for an unhappy legal. In this quick transition Kino displays how a ambition of success and greed may destroy chasteness. Kino's aspire to gain wealth changes how we see the pearl. Once we first visualize the treasure we see this as a natural splendor and all the best.
