In 1789 Europe experienced a revolution that would rock the continent of Europe and have a great influence on the colonies in the Carribbean especially St Domingue. During the time of the French Revolution St . Domingue (the term of Haiti at the time) was the most wealthy colony in the Caribbean and was called " The Pearl from the Indies". It had been the wealthiest french colony but acquired the most detrimental slave circumstances.

Social Structure

There were 3 social teams white, mulattoes and blacks. The whites were at the top of the social pyramid and did not socialize while using other cultural groups. The whites were split up into three groupings Metropolitan white-colored, Grand Blancs and Petit Blancs. The Metropolitan whites were the ones that were delivered in England. The Avismal Blancs had been the rich whites, municipal workers and owners of businesses. The Ephemere Blancs were the poor white wines and were treated badly. They cannot own land and would not have the right to trade due to a rules passed referred to as 'The Exclusive" or even take part in political matters. Being white was their particular only badge of honour. Both the Grand Blancs plus the Petit Blancs were envious and inferior to the City whites mainly because they were locally born even though the Metropolitan whites were created in England. Hence we were holding looked down on by the City whites and were referred to as Creoles (locally born whites).

At the middle of the social pyramid were the Mulattoes. They were the children of white plantation owners and dark-colored slave females. They were certainly not black and we were holding not white colored so these people were referred to as Coloured. The mulattoes were restricted from a number of things: they will could not use shoes in some places, they cannot play European games, these people were even constrained from the games Mister or perhaps Madame by one stage.

At the bottom from the social pyramid were the blacks, these were the slaves. They contributed to most of the human population of St . Domingue (about 80%). We were holding treated the worst of all social groups. They hated the white-colored...
